ASRD Philosophy
Stunning interiors begin with intention.
We approach interior design architecturally, with space planning as the foundation of every project.
How a home flows, how it supports daily rituals, gathering, solitude, and rest, informs every decision that follows.
Custom furnishings and millwork are developed as natural extensions of this framework, shaped by proportion,
material integrity, and the character of the home itself.
Light is integral to our work. Beyond its essential function, it shapes atmosphere, softens form, reveals texture,
and brings warmth to structure, transforming rooms into experiences.
We honor history while designing for contemporary life, integrating essential technologies with discretion and care.
The result is timeless, livable interiors, thoughtfully planned and beautifully illuminated.
Black Japanese Forest became the guiding narrative for this 1,700-square-foot loft in Boston’s South End. What began as a material inspiration evolved into a broader exploration of color, shadow, texture, and restraint, balancing depth with clarity in a compact urban setting.
A richly patterned wall covering introduced layered botanical tones that informed the project’s palette and temperament. Two complementary colorways anchor the interior, guiding the bouquet of hues carried throughout the loft. Custom millwork, including kitchen and pantry cabinetry, a sled-leg media console, and slatted oak screen walls, was designed to balance openness with definition, each element shaped by proportion and intention.
Integrated audio and dynamic lighting are discreetly embedded within the architecture, supporting atmosphere while maintaining visual calm. An eclectic yet disciplined mix of furnishings completes the composition. The result is a layered, expressive loft, personal in character and enduring in presence.
Minimal Maximalism Via Boschi Neri Giapponese
Contemporary Colonial (Purple Passion)

What began as a vision for a modern marvel transformed into something more nuanced. In collaboration with the architect, we shaped this 8,000-square-foot residence in Tiverton, Rhode Island, overlooking the Sakonnet River, into a home that bridges the familiar and the new. While expansive views anchor the architecture, the interiors focus on balance, proportion, comfort, and adaptability.

A transitional approach offered flexibility for strong and varying perspectives on style, resulting in a cohesive yet layered expression. Intricate architectural detailing, meticulously curated wall coverings and fabrics, and custom millwork establish rhythm throughout. Even spirited requests, including a desire to generously incorporate purple, ultimately shaped a home that feels distinctly personal.

Lighting was designed to complement architectural form while softening it, creating warmth and dimension across rooms of varying scale. Integrated systems support contemporary living with discretion and ease. The result is an elegant retreat, grounded, flexible, and deeply reflective of its owners.
The New Copper Standard

For a technology company comprising two distinct business units, this 4,000-square-foot hybrid office and showroom required cohesion without overt branding. One division carries a relaxed, slightly retro sensibility; the other serves a highly sophisticated residential clientele. The space needed to speak to both, clearly and confidently.

Copper became the unifying element.
Matte finishes introduce warmth and approachability, while polished accents lend refinement. The metal bridges identities while amplifying the brick-and-beam building’s original materials. Planning guided every transition between collaborative workspace, demonstration areas, and a hidden private cinema, where a hand-painted mural spans three walls.

A close collaboration with ownership yielded an interesting source of materials and inspiration. Layered lighting and seamlessly integrated technology are embedded within the architecture, enhancing performance while maintaining visual restraint. The resulting environment feels intentional and composed, equally suited to focused work, immersive demonstrations, and meaningful engagement.
Business In The Front (Gentlemen’s Brownstone II)

Our second brownstone for this accomplished professional couple marked a shift from resale sensibility to permanence. This purchase was about laying roots and expressing personality. Though multi-story, the rooms are modest in scale, requiring custom furnishings and millwork to maximize storage, comfort, and proportion while establishing a cohesive visual language.

Drawing inspiration from a recently renovated kitchen, we adopted a masculine yet relaxed approach, pairing blonde woods with deep navy accents. Bathrooms were fully reimagined with floor-to-ceiling textured tile, all doors and casings were replaced, and new hard pine flooring was installed to seamlessly match original planks that remained.

Integrated and decorative lighting layers enhance architectural clarity while amplifying statement wall coverings, one fanciful paper winds upward through three levels, while another anchors the study with geometric intensity. The result is layered and expressive, a deliberate counterpoint to the rigor of professional life.

A Flood of Style (Gentlemen’s Brownstone III)

Originally conceived as a targeted yet comprehensive renovation, this project expanded instantly due to damage caused by a burst pipe. What began as restoration became opportunity, a chance to meaningfully refine an already elegant home.

New herringbone wood flooring and custom furnishings strengthened the architectural language while enhancing livability. To existing fine window treatments, we added opulent wall coverings, tailored carpeting, and a saturated yet restrained color palette. Two of the home’s three modestly sized bathrooms were completely transformed, featuring marble, satin brass, and textured materials that elevate everyday rituals.

Smaller gestures, a bespoke mobile suspended in a bay window and a custom metal television frame, further articulate the narrative of sophistication. Layered architectural and decorative lighting brings warmth and clarity to each space. What began as recovery evolved into a home thoughtfully restored and elevated.

To the existing fine window treatments, we added opulent wall coverings, custom carpeting, and a saturated yet restrained color palette. Two of the home’s three modestly sized bathrooms were completely transformed, with a focus on luxurious materials, including marble, satin brass, and faux reptile skin.

We were already excited to take on a lite but comprehensive renovation when we received the call- Our scope increased in an instant due to a burst pipe. It can be a surprising challenge to make significant improvements to an already elegantly fulfilled home, but we took full advantage of the opportunity afforded us by considerable water damage. New herringbone wood flooring and custom furnishings, designed by ASRD, refined the home while enhancing its livability.

Smaller touches, such as the bespoke mobile that hangs in a bay window and the handsome metal TV frame, are used to further elaborate on our story of sophistication. Refined interiors wouldn’t be complete without purposefully beautiful lighting, and we met that need with an exciting mix of decorative and architectural luminaires. Water, meet fire!
